Who are we?

My name is Inês Guimarães and I am a veterinary surgeon (DVM) since 2013. My history begins when I first found out that being an animal doctor was called being a veterinary and that was all I wanted to become. I have a special interest in behavior and animal training and that is where my passion for cooperative veterinary care and low stress handling came from.
The Vet & Train project was born in 2015 with the objective of creating step by step videos with at home exercises that can lower the pet's stress and anxiety during veterinary consultation.
While I was a student at the university, and on every possibility, I went to help on a small animal practice. I have graduated in 2013 through Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (now UL) and I have done my master thesis about dog's behavior at routine consultations. I've also done courses on dog training and in 2012 I've done some private dog training lessons. After finishing the university in 2013, I've started working as a locum vet in several small animal practices. In 2014 I was hired as a full time vet at Clínica Veterinária da Guia (Alcantarilha) where I've practiced for 8 years. In 2021 I was hired as a full time vet at Vetgilão (Tavira).
Besides loving being the "family doctor" for the furry ones, I also have interest in behavior medicine, soft tissue surgery and abdominal ultrasound.
I've done several courses in training and behavior modification and behavior medicine and I am certified as an Elite level Fear Free Professional and as Low Stress Handling® Silver. I have done several courses of abdominal ultrasound (basic and advanced) and the soft tissue course from Improve Ibérica.
I share my life with my wonderful husband and our two dogs that are inseparable buddies to explore pedestrian trails and sailing the kayak.

We are Falkor and Yoshi and we are the main stars of this project.
Yoshi is reactive on the leash but he is an expert on cooperative medicine.
Falkor is afraid of some procedures but he thrust us completely.

What do we do?

We try to reduce the ansiety during consultation and medical procedures. We work so the animals cooperate with us.

Where can you find me?

I'm working Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at VetGilão in Tavira.
You can book your appointment through the clinic.
